UMBC SWIMMING & DIVING TEAMS SWEEP RIDER

    Jakub Sroczynski won two events.

    The UMBC men’s swimming and diving team improved to 2-0 on the year as they defeated Rider by a score of 131-104 this afternoon at the UMBC Natatorium. The UMBC women evened their record at 1-1 with a victory of their own, 148-79.

     

    On the men’s side, the Retrievers were led by senior Jakub Sroczynski and sophomore Ryan Karrer, who each won two events. Sroczynski finished first in the 100 freestyle (48.25), as well as the 200 free with a time of 1:43.45. Meanwhile, Karrer dominated the distance events, claiming the top spot in both the 500 (4:44.43) and 1000 freestyle (9:46.10) events.

     

    The Retriever women took first place in 12 of the 13 events, and were paced by sophomore Agnes Stanislawska, senior Lindsey Prather, and sophomore Katie Spohnholz. Stanislawska won both the 200 backstroke (2:07.27) and 200 freestyle (1:56.86) events, while Prather finished first in the 200 IM (2:12.76) and 200 breaststroke (2:24.19). In diving, Spohnholz clinched both the 1-meter and 3-meter events, with scores of 201 and 222, respectively.

     

    Both Retriever teams return to action on Friday, October 29, when they travel to Annapolis, Maryland for a meet against Navy. The UMBC men look to avenge their lone loss from last season, and their competition will begin at 4 p.m.. The women will compete at 6:30 p.m.
