8/24/2004

Former UMBC assistant and Retriever Aquatic Club Coach Chris Gibeau has been named as an assistant coach for the UMBC Men's and Women's Swimming & Diving teams.

Gibeau returns to UMBC after a six year stint with the Monocacy Aquatic Club (MAC), where he acted two years as Head Age Group Coach and four years as Head Coach. While at MAC, Gibeau had several swimmers achieve National Age Group Top 16 consideration, as well as Junior National and U.S. Open Qualifiers. In addition, under his guidance, MAC placed third in the Inaugural Maryland LSC Swimming Championships in March 2003. Furthermore, during his six-year tenure, Gibeau helped MAC double in size.

Prior to coaching with MAC, Gibeau spent three years at UMBC. While with UMBC/RAC, he helped lay the foundation for the future success of the men’s and women’s swimming programs.

As a member of Maryland Swimming, Gibeau has been on the board of directors for five of a possible nine years. He was also voted by his peers to be a Maryland All-Star Coach five years in a row, and served as Head All-Star Coach for the team that competed in Buffalo, New York this past summer.

An American Swim Coaches Association (ASCA) Level 3 lifetime member, Gibeau currently resides in Frederick, Maryland.
