UMBC SWIMMING AND DIVING TEAMS SWEEP OLD DOMINION

    Ian Carey finished first in both the 100 and 200 Breaststroke.

    NORFOLK, VA (Jan. 16, 2004) --  The UMBC swimming and diving teams swept both the men's and women's Old Dominion squads Friday night at the J.C. "Scrap" Chandler Pool.  The men won 162-128 and improved to 5-1 on the season, while the women remain undeafeated at 6-0 with a 162-132 victory.  Both ODU teams dropped to 2-4 on the season. 

    On the men's side, UMBC was led by senior Brad Green, who captured first in the 100 Backstroke, 50 Freestyle, and 100 Freestyle events. Senior Carlos Canepa, junior Jakub Sroczynski, and sophomore Ian Carey also added points for the Retrievers. Canepa won both distance free events, while Sroczynski captured first in the 200 free and 200 back, and Carey won both the 100 and 200 breaststroke.

    For the women, senior Astrid Sperling and freshman Agnes Stanislawska led UMBC, as each won three events. Sperling finished first in the 100 Back, 200 Back, and 200 IM, while Stanislawska won the 100, 200, and 500 Freestyle. Junior Lindsey Prather and senior Holly Wittsack also had a great day, as each won two events.
