UMBC SWIMMING AND DIVING SOARS PAST MARY WASHINGTON EAGLES

Baltimore, Md. – The UMBC men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams defeated Mary Washington on Monday afternoon at the UMBC Natatorium. The women’s team defeated the Eagles, 136-116, while the men’s team was victorious with a 146-102 win. The UMBC women’s squad stays undefeated in dual meet competition, moving to 5-0 on the year while Mary Washington women’s swimming and diving falls to 8-3. The UMBC men’s team, now at 4-1 on the season, dealt the Eagles their first loss of the year as they drop to 10-1.
The Retrievers women’s team had a strong showing from Astrid Sperling and Agnes Stanislawska. Sperling won three individual events, taking first in the 100 backstroke (59.10), the 200 backstroke (2:05.46) and the 200 individual medley (2:11.46). Stanislawska placed first in three events taking the 1000 freestyle (10:30.63), the 100 freestyle (53.67) and the 50 freestyle (25.29).
On the men’s side it was Jakub Srocynski who led a Retriever squad that took first place in each event. Srocynski place first in three of those events, placing as the top finisher in the 1000 freestyle (9:44.33), the 100 freestyle (47.99) and the 200 IM (1:58.75). Brad Green also had multiple first place finishes for the men’s team with a top finish in the 100 backstroke (53.96) and in the 50 freestyle (21.80).
The Retrievers travel to Virginia Beach, Va., on Friday, Jan. 16 for a 3 p.m. dual meet with Old Dominion.
