2005-06: Had one of the best seasons ever by a Retriever swimmer in her first year at UMBC after transferring from Maryland…took gold in the 200-free, the 500-free and the mile at the America East Championships, setting new meet records in the 500 and the mile…also anchored the winning 400-free relay and the second-place 800-free relay and swam on the second-place 200- and 400-medley relays at AEC’s…the 400-free (3:28.45) and 200-medley (1:47.51) relays set new school records…broke the school and meet records in the 200-free (1:51.22), the 500-free (4:50.42) and the mile (16:47.07) at the George Mason Invitational, winning each event…also set a new school mark in the 1,000-free (10:04.92) at Seton Hall…the 500, 1000 and mile records had stood since 1989…anchored the winning 800-free relay (7:34.75) which broke the school and meet record at the George Mason Invitational and the winning 400-free relay (3:29.02) which set a new meet and then-school record…also swam the butterfly leg of the 200-medley relay at the GMU Invite which at the time set a school record, and won the 100-free at the meet…won every dual meet individual event she swam except the 200-fly against East Carolina and the 200-IM at Marist, placing second in both…won the 200- and 500-free and 200-fly at three dual meets…overall, won the 200-free at seven dual meets, the 500-free at six, the 1,000-free at two, the 200-fly at five and the 400-IM at one…in addition to her records, swam UMBC’s fastest time of the season in the 200-fly (2:05.42) and the second-fastest time in the 100-free (52.42) and 400-IM (4:38.29)…achieved NCAA ‘B’ cut times in the 500-free and the mile…was named America East Swimmer of the Week in each of the first four weeks of the season…named team co-Most Valuable Athlete…swam on the winning 200-free and 200-medley relays against Howard, the winning 400-free relay against Towson and Binghamton and the winning 400-medley relay against Rider and Binghamton.
Background: Helped lead Maryland to an ACC championship and undefeated season in 2004…qualified for the NCAA Championships as a freshman for the Terps…swam Maryland’s fastest time of the season in the 1,000-free…named Rookie of the Meet at the 2001 Summer Nationals…trained for 12 years at North Baltimore Aquatic Club with Olympians Michael Phelps and Katie Hoff…competed in the 400- and 800-meter freestyle at the 2004 U.S. Olympic Trials…a member of the 2002 Junior National Team…was also recruited by Georgia, Rutgers, Auburn and Penn State…daughter of Linda and Stephen Sackett…has an older sister, Holly, who is on the cross country team at Towson…born Nov. 24, 1986…a child psychology and pre-law major.
