2003- Recognized as her team’s Most Valuable Swimmer as she claimed gold in the 200 IM, 100 and 200 back at the NEC’s... Was also the first place finisher in the 200 back and second in the 200 IM at the ECAC’s... Broke the school records for the 100 back (57.00), 200 back (2:00.53), and was a part of the record-breaking 200 (1:48.06) and 400 medley (3:52.10) relay teams.
2002- Was named NEC Swimmer of the Week for the week of 2/6... Won gold in the 200 back at the ECAC’s with a time of 2:02.16, good enough to become an NCAA provisional qualifier... Placed first in the 100 back against Navy, George Mason, Richmond, and Towson.
2001- Won gold in the 200 back at the ECAC’s... Broke the NEC Championship record in that same event with a time of 2:03.08...Also captured the 100 back at the NEC’s and was named Rookie of the Meet for her efforts...Was a member of the NEC champion 400 medley relay team...Took first place in both the 100 and 200 back versus Massachusetts and GW in a tri-meet...In fact, after coming to UMBC in the spring, won gold in the 200 back in every meet she competed.
Personal- Was an eight time junior champion in her native Germany...Finished fourth in the 200 back at the 1998 German Shortcourse Championships...Daughter of Rolf and Hanna Sperling...Born on July 1, 1980... Majoring in Interdisciplinary Studies.
