LISA BOONE NAMED SOFTBALL ASSISTANT COACH

Former softball standout Lisa Boone will join the coaching staff this upcoming season, it was announced today by Head Softball Coach Joe French.

"Lisa will be a tremendous asset to our staff as we make the transition to the America East Conference," said French. "As a previous centerfielder and shortstop, she will be able to help both the infielders and outfielders. Her reputation as one of the best baserunners in school history should also be a benefit to our running game."

Throughout her career at UMBC, Boone earned All Northeast Conference honors in softball in all four seasons and became UMBC's all-time leader in doubles, triples, extra-base hits, games played and at-bats. Voted as UMBC's Female Athlete of the Year in 2003, she is currently is second in career hits and runs scored and fourth in RBI's and stolen bases. The Owings, Maryland native posted a UMBC and NEC record 29-game hitting streak in 2002 and finished the year 37th in the nation with a .396 batting mark.
