SHEPPARD NAMED TO VERIZON ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT II FIRST TEAM

Senior Christy Sheppard (Richmond, VA/Mills Goodwin) was selected to the 2003 Verizon Academic All-District II University Division Softball First Team. The UMBC starting second-baseman posted a 3.619 GPA while majoring in Imaging and Digital Arts. During the past season, she batted .281 (48-171), and led the team in doubles with 16.
"She saved her best season for last," said head coach Joe French. "Wth the numbers she posted this year, she rose to become one of the best middle infielders in UMBC history. She is a true warrior on the field and a joy to coach."
In her four-year career at UMBC, Sheppard demonstated consistent play to rank second all-time in doubles (44), third in at-bats (650), fourth in extra-base hits (49), seventh in hits (163), eighth in RBI's (86), ninth in runs (82), and eleventh in games played (169).
