NICHOLSON RECEIVES THIRD PITCHER OF THE WEEK AWARD; SEAMON CHOSEN AS ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Freshman Lauren Nicholson is named NEC Pitcher of the Week for the third time this year after going 5-0 with a 1.35 ERA last week. The rookie-flame thrower picked up wins over St. Francis (PA) (8 IP, 6 H, 0 ER, 5 K, 1 BB), Drexel (7 IP, 5 H, 1 ER, 2 K, 1 BB) and Long Island (7 IP, 9 H, 3 ER, 2 K, 2 BB) during the week, and then won both halves of the Monmouth doubleheader (1st - 2 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 1 BB; 2nd - 7 IP, 4 H, 1 ER). For the week, Nicholson threw 31.0 innings, allowing just six earned runs and five walks, while striking out nine. On the year, she improved to 18-7 overall with a 2.13 ERA and 10-0 in NEC play with a 2.16 ERA.
Lara Seamon earns her first NEC Rookie of the Week honor after batting .348 with four runs, two RBIs, two doubles, three bases on balls and two steals last week. She went 4-for-6 with a double, two runs scored and a stolen base in two wins over non-conference opponent Drexel. In NEC play over the weekend, Seamon then batted .400 in sweeps of Long Island (2-for-5, one run, two walks) and Monmouth (2-for-5, one run, two RBIs, one double, one walk). A two-sport athlete who also plays basketball for UMBC, Seamon is hitting .284 with 19 runs, 17 RBIs, seven doubles, three triples and one home run on the season.
