SOFTBALL SWEEPS DREXEL, 2-0 & 5-1

    The Drexel Dragons softball team lost a pair to UMBC during non-conference play on Wednesday afternoon at Drexel Field, with the first game ending at 2-0 and the nightcap at 5-1.

    The Retrievers (34-17) scored the first run in the top of the third inning. The Retrievers scored one more run in the seventh inning, concluding the game at 2-0.

    Freshman Amy Sadowl, who pitched the complete game for the Retrievers, got the win  allowing no runs and only three hits. She had two strikeouts and walked one batter.


    In the nightcap game, UMBC scored the first run in the second inning and the Dragons (10-30, 1-11 CAA) came back with a run at the bottom of the second when freshman Eva Noelsch  scored on a single RBI by freshman Amanda Heyser. The scored remained at 1-1 until the Retrievers got four runs in the seventh inning. Junior Lauren Hebb tripled to left field with loaded bases, and got three RBIs. Hebb scored on a single RBI by Kristie Pickeral, and this concluding the scoring at 5-1.

    Freshman Lauren Nicolson, who pitched the complete game for UMBC, took the win with allowing only one earned run and five hits. She had two strikeouts and issued one walk.

    Heyser pitched the complete game for the Dragons allowed four earned runs, one unearned run and eight hits. She also had one strikeout.
