SOFTBALL DOUBLEHEADER VERSUS MONMOUTH POSTPONED

3/29/2003

Baltimore, MD – UMBC (14-14, 0-0 NEC) attempted to play its Northeast Conference opener against Monmouth (4-11, 0-0 NEC) this morning at the UMBC Softball Stadium and managed to play over four innings before finally giving in to rain. The score was tied at one with two outs and a runner on in the UMBC fifth when the came was called. Game one will be resumed and a second game will be played on a day yet to be rescheduled.

This morning, Monmouth got on the board first after Retriever starter Kristin Dulay hit Dana Pasini with a pitch in the top of the fourth inning. Pasini would advance to second on a wild pitch before teammate Paula Petrocelli sent her home with a double. In the bottom of the same inning, UMBC’s Kristie Pickeral tied the game with a lead-off blast over the left field fence. The score would remain the same until the rain caused a postponement of the doubleheader.
