UMBC Softball Welcomes George Mason for Midweek Single Game

BALTIMORE – UMBC softball looks to rebound from a tough weekend at the UMBC Spring Classic and build momentum before it opens conference action this weekend when the Retrievers host George Mason on Wednesday, March 20 for a single game. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m. at the UMBC Softball Stadium.
UMBC (6-18) dropped three of four at its final home tournament of the season. Sophomore infielder Courtney Reinfeld (Parkland, Fla./Stoneman Douglas) and sophomore catcher Taylor Hall (Cosby, Va./Cosby) each batted .455 on the weekend, combining for 10 hits – three of which were doubles – and 11 RBI. Freshman pitcher Rachel Ionata (Tampa, Fla./Palm Harbor University) earned her first collegiate victory on Saturday, a 9-1 win against Morgan State.
Hall pilots the Retrievers’ offense on the season with a .388 batting average and a team-best 32 RBI. The sophomore co-captain has a .413 on-base percentage and leads the squad with nine extra base hits, including a team-best five home runs. Freshman center fielder Bridget O’Malley (Brooklyn, Md./Seton Keough) has a .494 on-base percentage and has drawn a team-high 24 walks on the year.
Pitcher Heather Brown (Pasadena, Md./Northeast) has three of the team’s five victories on the year and has posted a team-low 2.70 ERA. The senior has fanned 27 batters in 13 appearances.
George Mason (6-16) hits the road for the first time since Feb. 15 and returns to action after dropping five at its home tournament, the Cherry Blossom Classic.
Sophomore shortstop Brooke Blankenship is batting a team-best .333 on the year with 16 RBI, while senior infielder Megan Blank has chipped in nine RBI on the year. In the circle, Anna Blessing has registered a 1.65 ERA in 17.0 innings of work. Sophomore Casey Herring has fanned a team-best 23 batters in 33.2 innings of work and has registered a 3.33 ERA.
