Softball Heads to Maine to take on the Black Bears for Three-Game Set
Ashley Carver hit her first career homerun against LaSalle on Tuesday
BALTIMORE – After a brief home stand on Tuesday that included a doubleheader sweep of LaSalle, the UMBC Softball team (19-25, 1-11 America East) hits the road once again to take on America East rival Maine (12-26-1, 3-7-1 America East) this weekend. The three-game series will begin on Saturday with a doubleheader set to start at noon and conclude on Sunday with a single game slated for 11 a.m.
On Tuesday against LaSalle, senior Ashley Carver (Swoyersville, Pa./Wyoming Valley West) led the way at the plate for the Retrievers with her first career homerun. In the two games, the veteran utility player went 3-for-5 against the Explorers while driving in and scoring two runs.
In game one, Martinez (1-2) shut down the Explores surrendering only two runs on five hits to pick her first career win. Brown (7-10) then nearly equaled her teammate’s effort in the second game of the twin bill, giving up just three runs on six hits to earn her seventh win of the season.
Sophomore third baseman Jessica Warner (Huntingtown, Md./Huntingtown) continues to lead the squad with a .375 average (51-for-136) to go along with 26 RBIs and ten homeruns. Freshman Taylor Hall (Cosby, Va./Cosby) has also impressed with a .369 average (48-for-130) with a team-best 13 doubles.
The trip to Maine is the Retrievers final road trip of the year as they come back to Baltimore to face Boston University for a three-game set next weekend to end the regular season.
