HEAD SOFTBALL COACH JOE FRENCH SIGNS TRANSFER LAUREN HEBB FOR SPRING 2003

12/6/2002

Head softball coach Joe French announced today that first-baseman/outfielder Lauren Hebb recently signed a national letter of intent to continue her academic and softball career at UMBC for the spring 2003 season.

Hebb, a native of Bowie, MD, is a junior college transfer from Prince George's Community College, where she played during the 2001 and 2002 seasons. Although slated to play either at first base or in the outfield for the Retrievers, the left-handed Hebb has previously also been a catcher and a pitcher.

During the 2002 season, she made the Second Team Louisville Slugger/NFCA NJCAA Division II All-American Team, as she batted .549 with two homeruns, 26 runs scored, and 28 RBI's in 28 games. "Hebb posseses an outstanding arm, quick baserunning, and a very solid bat with line drive power," said French. "I am very excited to have her signed on to play in the upcoming season. Once she makes the adjustment to Division I play and her new teammates, she will be a solid player.
