Weigman Named America East Co-Pitcher of the Week
5/2/2011
![]() Stephanie Weigman earned her second America East Pitcher of the Week Award of the season. |
Weigman was outstanding in three complete games spanning 20.0 innings last week, going 3-0 with a 0.70 ERA and 19 strikeouts. She allowed just two earned runs on 12 hits, holding opponents to a .176 average.
Weigman gave up one run on four hits and struck out eight against La Salle on Tuesday, then allowed one run on three hits and struck out seven in the first game of Saturday’s doubleheader against America East rival
Weigman improved to 16-12 on the season, becoming just the third Retriever ever to win at least 15 games in two different seasons. In addition, she has recorded 132 strikeouts in 2011, making her the first Retriever pitcher to fan more than 100 batters all four years. She is UMBC’s all-time leader in both categories, racking up 64 wins and 768 strikeouts in her career.
This marks Weigman’s second Pitcher of the Week award this season, as she also earned the honor on April 4, and it is the fourth of her career. She shares the award this week with Stony Brook’s Colleen Matthes.
