Softball Falls to Albany, 9-0, in Series Finale

ALBANY, N.Y.—The UMBC softball team (20-21, 5-10 AE) fell to America East rival Albany (20-18, 11-1 AE) by a score of 9-0 in five innings Saturday afternoon in the finale of the three-game series at Albany Field.
The Great Danes scored at least once in all four innings in which they came to the plate, scoring four times in the first and twice in both the second and fourth, using home runs from shortstop Andrianna Walraven, designated player Melissa Herndon and center fielder Jess Bergin.
The Retrievers had runners on base in four out of five innings but were unable to cross the plate. Senior left fielder Julia Culotta (
Senior Stephanie Weigman (Elkridge, Md./Archbishop Spalding) suffered the loss after giving up six runs on five hits and five walks in two innings of work. Brittany MacFawn tossed three scoreless innings for the win.
