  • Box Score

BALTIMOREBoston University hurler Cassidi Hardy tossed the fourth no-hitter of her career to lead the Terriers (23-15, 7-2 AE) to a 5-0 victory over UMBC (21-19, 2-7 AE) Sunday afternoon at UMBC Softball Stadium.

The Terriers got on the board in the second inning on a two-out single by first baseman Rachel Hebert, then scored four times in the third. Back-to-back homers by center fielder April Setterlund and shortstop Emily Roesch to lead off the inning got the offense started, and BU added two more on an RBI double by left fielder Taylor Cowan and a run-scoring single by catcher Caitlin Rentler.

Hardy retired the first nine batters of the game before plunking junior second baseman Lauren Brummell (Hanover, Va./Hanover) to lead off the fourth. Brummell advanced to second on a passed ball, but never got any further, as Hardy set down eight straight before walking Brummell in the sixth.

Those were the only base runners allowed by Hardy (13-6), who struck out nine batters in the game. Senior Amanda Fefel (Baltimore, Md./Catonsville) suffered the loss after giving up five runs on seven hits in 2.1 innings of work. Junior Stephanie Weigman (Elkridge, Md./Archbishop Spalding) gave up four hits and struck out eight in 4.2 scoreless innings in relief.

The Retrievers return to action next weekend, when they travel to America East rival Maine for a three-game series.
