Three Retrievers Named to UMBC Spring Classic All-Tournament Team

Angela Yannone had four hits, including a three-run double in UMBC's seven-run rally against Mount St. Mary's on Sunday.

BALTIMORE—Senior Amanda Fefel (Baltimore, Md./Catonsville) and sophomores Kaela Mason (Bel Air, Md./Harford Tech) and Angela Yannone (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake) were named to the UMBC Spring Classic All-Tournament Team, UMBC head coach Joe French announced Monday.

 

Fefel batted .375 (6-for-16) with a double and three RBIs in five games at the weekend tournament, and she picked up the victory in the Retrievers’ 8-5 come-from-behind win over Mount St. Mary’s on Sunday. Mason hit .571 (4-for-7) with a double and three RBIs in four games, and she was 3-for-3 with two RBIs in pinch-hitting opportunities. Yannone batted .400 (4-for-10) in three games, and she had the big hit in UMBC’s win over the Mount, a two-out, three-run double in the seven-run sixth inning that gave the Retrievers the lead.

 

Delaware’s Michelle Grap was named UMBC Spring Classic MVP after leading the Blue Hens to the tournament title with a perfect 4-0 record. She batted .545 (6-for-11) with four home runs, seven RBIs and seven runs scored and also walked four times in four games.
