Brummell Snags Second America East Player of the Week Award

Lauren Brummell earned her second America East Player of the Week award this season.

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.Junior second baseman Lauren Brummell (Hanover, Va./Hanover) was named America East Player of the Week for the week ending March 14, the conference announced Monday. It is Brummell’s second accolade of 2010, as she also won for the first week of the season.

 

Brummell led the Retrievers to a 3-1 week with a .444 average and a 1.000 slugging percentage. She collected eight hits in 18 at-bats with a double and three home runs. She also scored a team-high six runs, drove in four and stole two bases.

 

Brummell went 3-for-6 and drove in the winning run with a 10th-inning homer in the first game against Delaware on Tuesday, a 6-5 UMBC victory. She then ignited a four-run, two-out rally with a double in the third inning of the nightcap, which the Retrievers won, 4-2.

 

The second baseman went 3-for-4 with a two-run homer in an 8-3 win in the first game against George Washington on Thursday, then blasted a leadoff home run in the nightcap.

 

Brummell leads the Retrievers with a .425 average, 17 hits, 15 runs scored, four steals, four homers and an .875 slugging percentage as the leadoff hitter this season.

 

The Retrievers return to action on Wednesday, when they host Howard in a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m.
