Brummell Tabbed America East Softball Player of the Week

Lauren Brummell earned her first career Player of the Week award.

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.—UMBC junior second baseman Lauren Brummell (Hanover, Va./Hanover) was named America East Softball Player of the Week for the first week of the season, the conference announced Monday.

Brummell earned MVP honors at the season-opening Campus Suites Spartan Classic, as she led the Retrievers to the tournament title, hitting .455 with five runs scored in four games. She slugged .818 with a double and a home run and reached base at a 53.3 percent clip, both team bests.

Brummell drove in both of UMBC’s runs in the 2-1 extra inning victory over host USC Upstate in the championship game, leading off the game with a home run and knocking in the go-ahead run in the top of the eighth with a sacrifice fly.
