Softball Inks Two for 2011
BALTIMORE—UMBC head softball coach Joe French announced today that two players have signed National Letters of Intent to join the Retrievers for the 2011 season.
“Both of these student-athletes are strong leaders who bring a very strong athletic and academic background to UMBC,” French said. “Better yet, they both bring a strong knowledge of the game and the desire to be a UMBC Retriever. Their skills on the field will enhance our program as we strive for continued success in the America East Conference.”
Katrina Gaar is a 5-foot-11 outfielder/catcher from
“Katrina is athletic with above-average quickness and agility, and she has a very good throwing arm,” French said. “She will provide a very good left-handed stick and will help us right away. She brings a wealth of collegiate experience and maturity to our team, and she is also a very good student. Her experience in one of the toughest junior college leagues in the country will be a great help.”
Caitlin Chance is a middle infielder/utility player from
“Caitlin can hit the ball to all fields and runs the bases extremely well,” French said. "She is an all-around player who should help us in all facets of the game immediately."
