STONY BROOK, N.Y.—UMBC sophomore second baseman Lauren Brummell (Hanover, Va./Hanover) and senior third baseman Krista Kearns (Santa Fe Springs, Calif./Santa Fe) were selected to the America East All-Championship Team, the conference announced Saturday.
Brummell went 2-for-5 with a walk and drove in the Retrievers’ only run in a 5-1 loss to Albany. She also made a spectacular play at second base in the fourth inning to preserve a 1-1 tie. In addition, her single in the third inning against the Great Danes was the 100th hit of her career. Kearns was the only other Retriever with multiple hits, as she went 2-for-6 with an RBI.
Boston University pitcher Cassidi Hardy was named the America East Championships’ Most Outstanding Player after earning three wins en route to the Terriers’ first conference title since 2003.
UMBC’s season ended with a 5-1 loss to Albany on Friday. The Retrievers (34-21, 12-8 AEC) advanced to the America East Championships for the fourth year in a row, earning the fourth seed.
