Stephanie Weigman allowed just two hits in six innings.

STONY BROOK, N.Y.UMBC starter Stephanie Weigman (Elkridge, Md./Archbishop Spalding) battled Stony Brook hurler Casey Jacobs for seven innings, but in the end the Seawolves (32-11, 13-4 AEC) emerged with a 1-0 victory over the Retrievers (32-19, 10-8 AEC) Sunday afternoon at University Field.

The pitchers combined to allow just six hits and four walks in the game. Weigman (20-14) gave up two hits and struck out five, while Jacobs (10-3) surrendered four hits – one to each of the top four batters in UMBC’s lineup.

The Seawolves manufactured their run in the third inning. After a walk and a pair of sacrifice bunts, shortstop Vicki Kavitsky singled through the right side to plate the only run of the game.

The Retrievers attempted a comeback in the seventh inning, getting two runners on with one out, but a double play ended the game.

UMBC now returns home for the final five games of the regular season, hosting non-conference foe Delaware in a doubleheader on Wednesday before a three-game weekend series with America East rival Hartford with a berth in the conference championships at stake.
