Amanda Page went 2-for-3 with a double and a three-run homer.

BALTIMORE—Sophomore hurler Stephanie Weigman (Elkridge, Md./Archbishop Spalding) picked up her 19th win of the year to tie UMBC’s single-season record, and junior catcher Amanda Page (Batavia, N.Y./Batavia/Monroe CC) drove in three runs, as the UMBC softball team (30-17, 8-6 AEC) completed a three-game sweep over America East rival Vermont (6-31, 3-11 AEC) Sunday afternoon at UMBC Softball Stadium.

Page’s three-run blast with two outs in the first proved to be the difference in the game. She also doubled in the third and scored UMBC’s fourth run of the game on an RBI single by senior third baseman Krista Kearns (Santa Fe Springs, Calif./Santa Fe).

Vermont’s only run came in the second inning when shortstop Rebecca Heimbigner singled with the bases loaded.

Weigman (19-12) went the distance and allowed one run on eight hits and struck out six. She tied pitching coach Lauren Nicholson’s UMBC record of 19 wins in a season, which was set in 2006. Weigman also pitched her 24th complete game of the season to take sole possession of that record after tying Crystal Ray (’00) on Saturday.

Caitlin Monahan (1-14) suffered her third loss of the weekend after surrendering four runs on seven hits in three innings. Jocelyn Abaray pitched three scoreless innings in relief and gave up just three hits.

Sophomore left fielder Malorie Weller (Round Hill, Va./Loudoun Valley/Kennesaw State) went 3-for-4 with a double, while Page finished 2-for-3 with three RBI and two runs scored.

The Retrievers return to action on Wednesday, April 22, when they head to Vestal, N.Y., to take on America East rival Binghamton for the conclusion of the three-game series. UMBC took the first two in Baltimore on April 8.
