Kearns, Weigman Headline UMBC Dawg Pound All-Tournament Team for Retrievers

Krista Kearns batted .500 en route to Co-Hitter of the Tournament honors.

Stephanie Weigman struck out 29 batters in 19 innings of work en route to Co-Pitcher of the Tournament honors.

BALTIMORE—Senior right fielder Krista Kearns (Santa Fe Springs, Calif./Santa Fe) was named Co-Hitter of the Tournament and sophomore hurler Stephanie Weigman (Elkridge, Md./Archbishop Spadling) was tabbed Co-Pitcher of the Tournament for last weekend’s UMBC Dawg Pound Tournament, UMBC head coach Joe French announced Monday.

Junior first baseman Amanda Fefel (Baltimore, Md./Catonsville), sophomore center fielder Julia Culotta (Street, Md./North Harford/Tennessee) and sophomore designated player Lauren O'Malley (Pasadena, Md./Archbishop Spalding) were also selected to the All-Tournament Team.

Kearns batted .500 (6-for-12) with a double, a home run, three runs scored and four RBI in five games. She slugged .833 with 10 total bases and reached base at a .538 clip. She shared Hitter of the Tournament honors with Marist’s Melissa Giordano.

Weigman went 2-1 with a 2.21 ERA and 29 strikeouts in 19.0 innings of work, holding opponents to a .197 batting average. She pitched two complete games, including a two-hit shutout of Big East foe Seton Hall on Saturday, and she struck out a career-high 12 batters against Marist on Friday. She shared Pitcher of the Tournament honors with Seton Hall’s Ashley Forsyth.

Fefel hit .412 (7-for-17) and slugged .588 with a homer and a team-best six RBI. Culotta batted .308 (4-for-13) and slugged .769 with two home runs and three RBI, while O’Malley hit .438 (7-for-16).

Seton Hall won the UMBC Dawg Pound Tournament with a 6-1 victory over the Retrievers in Sunday’s championship game. Drexel defeated Fairleigh Dickinson, 8-0, in six innings in the consolation games.
