ALBANY, N.Y.UMBC sophomore third baseman Amanda Fefel (Baltimore, Md./Catonsville) and senior shortstop Dana Shepherd (Columbia, Md./Oakland Mills) were selected to the America East All-Championship Team, the conference announced Saturday.

Fefel batted .400 (4-for-10) in three games at the league tournament. She went 2-for-3 with a double against Albany on the first day of competition, collecting both of the Retrievers’ hits in the game. Then against Boston University, she went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run that put UMBC on the board first in a 5-3 victory.

Shepherd was one of just three Retrievers to collect more than one hit in the tournament. She went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored against Boston University, and her infield single in the fourth inning tied the game just after the Terriers had taken a 3-2 lead in the top of the frame.

Stony Brook pitcher Alyssa Struzenberg was named the America East Championship’s Most Outstanding Player after tossing two shutouts in three games, including a 4-0 blanking of three-time defending champion and top-seeded Albany in the title game on Saturday.

UMBC’s season ended with a 4-0 loss to the Great Danes on Friday. The Retrievers (25-29, 12-9 AEC) advanced to the America East Championships for the third year in a row, earning the fourth seed.
