UMBC SOFTBALL COMPLETES A DOUBLEHEADER SHUTOUT OF DREXEL
4/25/2002
Baltimore, MD - Seniors Linsi Moy and Angie Amedro recorded shutout victories over Drexel (8-32, 2-7 CAA), 5-0 and 2-0, respectively on a breezy day at the UMBC Softball Stadium. Both pitchers were recognized along with classmates Bonnie Nevin and Deanna Vecchio before the foursome made their last home game appearance. UMBC (39-16, 17-3 NEC) jumped out to an early lead in game one when Vecchio led off the first inning with a double and later scored on an RBI grounder by freshman Kristie Pickeral. The Retrievers would add a pair in both the third and fifth innings to put the game away. Moy pitched a no-hitter in four innings of work and received the win to improve to 13-5 on the year. Sophomore Kristin Dulay, who finished up the last three innings, struck out seven, while allowing only two hits. In game two, the Retrievers scored the only runs of the game in the first when Vecchio started things off with a single and scored on a triple by junior Lisa Boone. With one out, Pickeral hit a solo shot to left field, her fifth of the year, to put UMBC up, 2-0. The shutout victory gave Amedro her fifteenth win of the season, placing her in a tie for the number one spot in UMBC's all-time single season wins record. The Retrievers wrap up conference play tomorrow when they face the Northeast Conference's undefeated leader, Long Island University, at Brooklyn, NY.
