SOFTBALL SWEEPS WAGNER
4/13/2002
The Retriever picthing staff allowed only six hits during the day to complete a doubleheader sweep of Wagner (17-19, 3-13 NEC), 4-3 and 7-0, this afternoon at the UMBC Softball Stadium. The Retrievers are now 33-14 overall and 13-3 in the Northeast Conference.In game one, UMBC scored one in the first inning after Wagner pitcher Krystie Petty walked the first two batters, Deanna Vecchio and Lisa Boone. With one out, Jess Graziano sent Vecchio home with a grounder to put the Retrievers up 1-0. The Seahawks came back in the second, scoring three runs on two hits and two UMBC errors. However, UMBC would rally in the bottom of the seventh. With two outs, Abbie Kahn doubled to left field and scored on a single by Vecchio. Boone also singled and would score along with Vecchio on a base hit by Kristie Pickeral. Senior pitcher Angie Amedro, who came in relief for Linsi Moy earned the win in relief and is now 12-5.In the nightcap, UMBC pounded out 12 hits and won 7-0. Vecchio went 3-for-3 with a double, a triple, and three runs scored to lead the offense. Sophomore Kristin Dulay improved to 10-5, allowing only two hits in six innings of work.
