RETRIEVERS SWEEP MOUNT ST. MARY'S

Emmittsburg, MD - The UMBC softball team exploded for 25 hits en route to a doubleheader sweep of the Mountaineers, 11-2 (5) and 10-4, today at the Mount Softball Field. The Retrievers improved to 31-14 overall and 10-3 in the NEC, while the Mount fell to 4-23 and 1-12 in league play. In game one, UMBC scored all that they would need in the first inning after junior Lisa Boone walked, sophomore Jess Graziano reached on an error, and freshman Kristie Pickeral knocked one over the left field fence. The Mountaineers would score in the first to cut the lead to 3-1. Both teams then scored a run in the second, but UMBC would break the game open, scoring seven runs in the fifth inning. For the game, Boone went 3-for-3 with two RBI's and two runs, while Pickeral went 2-for-4 with two homeruns. Senior pitcher Linsi Moy earned her eleventh win, scattering eight hits, while striking out four in five innings of work.In game two, UMBC jumped to an early 5-0 lead and never looked back, as eleven different Retrievers had a hit in the 10-4 win over the Mountaineers. Once again, Boone led the way, going 2-for-3 with and RBI and a run scored. Graziano and Christy Sheppard also added two hits apiece. Sophomore Kristin Dulay improved to 9-5 with her complete game effort.
