DEANNA VECCHIO NAMED NEC SOFTBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Vecchio earns her second NEC Player of the Week honor this season, after batting .500 with eight runs, eight RBI's, two doubles, two triples, one home run and four stolen bases last week. She went 4-for-6 with four runs, four RBI's, a double and a triple in a doubleheader sweep versus regionally ranked George Mason. In conference action, Vecchio went 1-for-4 with a triple and run scored in the nightcap win against CCSU and then had a banner day against Quinnipiac, collecting six hits, four runs batted in, three runs scored, one double, one home run and three stolen bases. On the year, she leadsthe team in batting average (.414), at bats (152), hits (63), runs scored (45) and stolen bases (27), while also adding 24 runs batted in, 10 doubles, three triples and three home runs. The senior shortstop from Matawan, NJ holds the Retrievers' school records in stolen bases (129), runs scored (156) and hits (233).
