RETRIEVER SOFTBALL BLANKS GEORGE MASON IN BOTH ENDS OF DOUBLEHEADER

    Baltimore, MD - UMBC shut out the Patriots, 10-0 and 8-0, to improve to 26-13 overall on a cold and overcast day at the UMBC Softball Stadium. George Mason, an NCAA-ranked Top 10 team in the Northeast region, falls to 26-11 on the year. In game one, the Retrievers got an early lead after Deanna Vecchio led off with a walk to start the first inning. Patriot starter Katherine Hrycyna would allow three singles and two more walks before getting the third out to give UMBC a 3-0 advantage. The Retrievers added two more in the second behind Jess Graziano's two-run homerun, and scored another five in the bottom of the fifth to end the game, by way of the NCAA's eight-run rule. Senior pitcher Angie Amedro earned her eleventh win, allowing only one hit in the shutout. The Retrievers continued to hit well in the nightcap, accumulating eight runs on twelve hits, while capitalizing on three Patriot errors. In this match, UMBC would get six extra-base hits, including a three-run homer by freshman Kristie Pickeral. By way of the eight-run rule, the game was ended after the Retrievers scored their eight run with only one out in the bottom of the sixth. Senior Linsi Moy was awarded the win, as she allowed four hits while striking out two in six innings of work.
