Baltimore, MD - The UMBC softball team extended their winning streak to fifteen games by defeating Brown (3-5), 7-3 and 4-2, today at the UMBC Softball Stadium. The Retrievers are now 22-11 overall, and 4-0 in the Northeast Conference. In game one, the Brown Bears got on the board first after catcher Candace Toth led off the second inning with a walk, followed by a single by Lizzie Buza. Singles by Julia Iudicello and Lauren Leonetti would send two home for the Bears before UMBC could get out of the inning. The Retrievers scored one in the bottom of the second to cut the lead in half, then scored six more in the final two innings to put the game away, 7-3. Eight different Retrievers had hits in the game, including a solo homerun by outfielder Abbie Kahn. Once again, Brown got the early lead in game two, after Leonetti drove an RBI-single to left field in the second. However, in the bottom of the same inning, Brown starter Laura Decker would walk three Retrievers to load the bases, and reliever Uchenna Omokaro would walk another, while giving up a sacrifice fly to Kahn to give UMBC a 2-1 advantage. The Retrievers added two more in the fifth, and Brown would threaten in the seventh, scoring one run on four hits, but would come up short of the victory. For the Retrievers, Kristin Dulay gave up two runs on nine hits while striking out four to earn the win.
