Softball Drops Doubleheader to Towson
Baltimore-The UMBC softball team (24-10) had its 10-game winning streak snapped by
Center fielder Jen Hastings led off the game with a home run to give
Hastings hit her second home run of the game, a two-run shot, in the top of the third to make the score 4-3, but the Retrievers again answered back with a run in the bottom of the inning on an RBI groundout by shortstop Reilly Ward.
The Retrievers threatened in the bottom of the fifth, loading the bases, but could not score.
The Tigers added two more in the top of the seventh, both runs coming with two outs, using three singles and two walks but also left the bases loaded.
UMBC starter Amanda Fefel (9-2) suffered the loss after allowing 10 runs on seven hits and three walks in 3.2 innings. Jessica Taylor gave up two runs on three hits and three walks while striking out three in 3.1 innings in relief.

Fefel led the Retrievers at the plate, going 4-for-4 with a double, a run scored and an RBI. Catcher Krissy Licursi also had two hits, while Ward drove in two runs.
The Tigers got on the board first in the third inning of game two when catcher Aimee Rosa homered with two outs. They added another run in the fourth on a double, a walk and two hit batters, taking a 3-0 lead.

In the bottom of the inning, UMBC freshman pinch hitter Lauren O’Malley hit a three-run homer, the first of her career, to make the score 5-3. But the game was called after the frame due to darkness.
Krista Kearns (4-4) suffered the loss for the Retrievers after allowing five runs on four hits and seven walks and hitting four batters while striking out four in six innings. Shannon Johnston picked up the victory for the Tigers, giving up three runs on six hits and a walk while striking out six in six innings of work.
