UMBC DEFEATS KNIGHTS SOFTBALL, 10-2 AND 9-2

HACKENSACK, NJ – UMBC (20-11, 4-0 NEC) extended its win streak to thirteen with a doubleheader sweep of Fairleigh Dickinson (2-4, 0-2 NEC) by scores of 10-2 and 9-2 in Foschini Park. In game one, the Retrievers opened an early lead by scoring their first four batters in the top of the first inning. UMBC scored one more in the third and one more in the sixth to widen the margin to 6-2 going into the seventh inning where three Knight errors helped the Retrievers to four more runs and the final 10-2 loss. Deanna Vecchio (Sr., SS, Matawan, NJ) went 4-for-4 for the Retrievers in game one with two rbi and two runs scored. Angie Amedro (Sr., RHP, Pennellville, NY) got the win for UMBC pitching six innings and giving up two runs. The Knights’ Nicole Farrissey (Fr., RHP, Paramus, NJ) moves to 1-2 on the season, pitching a complete seven innings. UMBC scored one run in each of the first three innings of game two to take the 3-0 lead before the Knights’ responded with two in the bottom of the fourth to stay within a one-run margin. Fairleigh Dickinson couldn’t get any closer as the Retrievers’ pounded the basepaths for six more runs, including five in the sixth inning. Linsi Moy (Sr., RHP, Kirkland, WA) earned the win for the Retrievers, striking out three and walking one in five innings. Marlise Kotrosits (Fr., RHP, Whitehall, PA) gave up just one earned run in six innings for the Knights but moves to 1-2 on the season. The Retrievers return to action when they host Brown University on March 27, 2 p.m.
