Retrievers Sweep Softball Doubleheader at Delaware State

    Dana Shepherd hit a two-run double during the Retrievers' nine-run second inning in game two.

    Dover, Del.-The UMBC softball team swept host to Delaware State in a doubleheader Monday afternoon by scores of 9-1 and 10-3.

    In the opener, Melanie Denischuk, Amanada Fefel and Krissy Lucursi knocked in two runs each to lead the Retrievers (6-4).

    Fefel, also the winning pitcher, put UMBC on the board with a two-run triple in the first. The Retrievers added two more in the third to open up a 5-0 lead.

    Catrina Ansbach drove in Delaware State’s run in the bottom of the fourth, while Megan Lambertz had two hits for the Hornets.

    In the nightcap, Fefel smacked a three-run homer to highlight UMBC’s nine-run second inning. Dana Shepherd had a two-run double for the Retrievers in the second.

    Lambertz had a two-run single in the second for the Hornets. Shannon Sams singled in Delaware State’s final run in the bottom of the fifth.

    Diana Gomez had two hits for Delaware State (2-14) in game two.
