Fefel Named America East Softball Rookie of the Week

Amanda Fefel posted a 1.81 ERA and batted .333 last week.

Boston-UMBC freshman Amanda Fefel (Baltimore, Md./Catonsville) was named America East Softball Rookie of the Week for the week ending March 11, the conference announced Monday.

Fefel shined in her first week of collegiate softball, hitting .333 (6-for-18) with a home run and three RBI at the plate, and going 1-1 with a 1.81 ERA, striking out 14 and allowing just one earned run in 12.2 innings on the mound. Fefel and three hits and two RBI in UMBC’s season-opening doubleheader at George Washington on March 6, and she pitched a complete game shutout against Howard on Friday, striking out eight and allowing just four hits in the win. She hit her first collegiate home run on Saturday against St. Francis (Pa.), and she allowed just one earned run in the loss to Bucknell on Sunday.

Fefel and the Retrievers return to action on Tuesday when they host in-state rival Maryland for a double-header beginning at 2 p.m.
