UMBC SOFTBALL GOES 3-2 AT DIXIE CLASSIC
UMBC came home with a 3-2 record after participating in the Dixie Classic, held at Virginia Beach on March 1-3. UMBC, now 5-9 overall, opened the tournament with a shutout of James Madison, 6-0. In the game, senior captain Deanna Vechhio went 3-4 with one RBI, as she hit the first Retriever homerun of the season. Angie Amedro, who pitched a two-hitter and struck out seven, received credit for the win. Later in the day, the Retrievers would play two more, splitting the decision with a win against Norfolk State, 4-3, and a loss to Cornell, 6-0. In the second day of the tournament, UMBC began with another shutout, this time defeating St. John's, 3-0. However, the Retrievers would fall to Cornell again in the afternoon with a final score of 7-2.This weekend, the Retrievers will face Harvard, Cleveland State, and Appalachian State at the Elon Classic.
