UMBC DROPS FIRST FOUR GAMES OF 2002

The Retrievers lost four straight at the Triangle Classic, hosted by the University of North Carolina on February 15-17. In the season opener, UMBC (0-4, 0-0 NEC) fell in eight innings to George Mason, 5-4. Later that afternoon, the Lady Retrievers were shutout by host UNC, 3-0. In the second day of competition, UMBC was narrowly defeated by UNC-Wilmington and UNC-Charlotte by scores of 4-3 and 3-2, respectively. UNC-Wilmington scored all four runs in the first inning and the Retrievers came up short after scoring a run in each of the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings.
