DENISCHUK, WARD SELECTED TO BASH AT THE BEACH ALL-TOURNAMENT TEAM

Reilly Ward hit .500 in five games with five doubles and seven runs scored at the Bash at the Beach.

Georgetown, Del.-Juniors Melanie Denischuk (Poway, Calif./Hugh Sutherland (Carstairs, Alberta)/Indian River CC/Auburn) and Reilly Ward (Olney, Md./Sherwood) were named to the Bash at the Beach all-tournament team, Delaware State officials announced Tuesday.

 

Denischuk hit .600 (9-for-15) in five games with five runs scored, three doubles, a home run and seven RBI. She collected 15 total bases for a 1.000 slugging percentage, and she walked five times for a .727 on-base average.

 

Ward hit .500 (8-for-16) in five games with seven runs scored, five doubles and six RBI. She collected 13 total bases for an .812 slugging percentage, and she walked five times for a .619 on-base average.

 

The Retrievers went 4-1 on the weekend, defeating Niagara, St. Francis (Pa.), St. Joseph’s and Drexel in pool play before falling to St. Peter’s in the medal round. UMBC is off to the best start in school history at 20-6.

 

The Retrievers return to action Wednesday, when they host George Mason at 3:30 p.m. at UMBC Softball Stadium.
