UMBC SOFTBALL SIGNS NEW JERSEY JUNIOR COLLEGE STANDOUT FOR 2006 SEASON

11/22/2005

Junior College standout Krissy Licursi has signed to play at UMBC for the 2006 season.

Baltimore, Md.-UMBC head softball coach Joe French announced today the signing of catcher/utility player Krissy Licursi out of Sussex County Community College in New Jersey. Licursi will join the Retrievers in January 2006.

A two-time First-Team NJCAA All-Region XIX and First-team All Garden State Athletic Conference selection, Licursi hit .484 with four home runs, 61 RBIs and 75 runs scored in her two years at Sussex. Last spring she hit .495 in 111 at-bats with 18 doubles, 42 RBIs and 41 runs scored en route to being named a NFCA/NJCAA Division III Second-Team All-American.

Primarily a catcher, Licursi can also play first base, third base and the outfield.

“Licursi will be a big addition to our squad as she brings leadership and college experience to our program,” French said. “Krissy will play a variety of positions for us. She is a very strong athlete with a good glove, good arm and good base-running skills.”

A native of Sussex, N.J., Licursi spent last summer with the Allentown Patriots of the Amateur Softball association Women’s Fast Pitch Major League.
