UMBC SOFTBALL WINS FIFTH STRAIGHT WITH 10-0 SHUTOUT OF ST. FRANCIS (NY)

Baltimore, Md. – UMBC (6-8) opened the Third Annual Spring Classic by winning its fifth consecutive game with a 10-0 shutout of St. Francis (NY) in five innings. In earlier matches, Niagara (1-0) defeated St. Francis (PA), 8-0 in five innings, and St. Francis (PA) (1-13) bounced back to record a victory over Delaware State (0-1), 12-10, in eight innings. The Retrievers added five runs in the third, highlighted by another two-run double from Underwood, before Pickeral blasted a homerun to left-center in the fourth inning to give UMBC the 10-0 lead. Retriever pitcher Lauren Nicholson (Audubon, N.J./Paul VI) (5-4) received the win, as she gave up four hits, while striking out four.
The tournament will continue throughout the weekend. On Saturday, Niagara and UMES will play at 9:30am, St. Francis (NY) will go against
