SOFTBALL PICKED SEVENTH IN AMERICA EAST COACHES' POLL

The UMBC softball team has been chosen to finish seventh in the America East, according to a preseason poll by all league coaches. In the Retrievers' second year in the conference, they return seniors Kristie Pickeral and Amanda Bile, as well as junior pitchers Lauren Nicholson and Amy Sadowl.

Pickeral, who holds the school record for homeruns with 32, will start at third base, while Bile, who was a second team All-Conference selection last year, will return to left field. This spring, Nicholson and Sadowl will go 1-2 in the UMBC starting rotation.

Six-time America East champion Boston University has been chosen to win the conference, as they received five of a possible eight first-place votes for 61 points. Defending league champion Maine was picked second with one first-place vote and 50 points. They are followed by Albany (49), Stony Brook (47), Binghamton (32), and Hartford (20). UMBC received 17 points, while Vermont was picked eighth with 12 points
