The UMBC softball team fell to 1-4 on the season after dropping a 3-1 decision to host Elon (7-3) in the final day of the Elon Invitational. The game remained scoreless until the fourth inning when Elon's Tracey Dahlen singled up the middle before stealing second and advancing to third on a wild pitch. Whitney Meeks then singled up the middle to put Dahlen across the plate and give the Phoenix a 1-0 lead.

However, UMBC answered in the bottom of the inning when Reilly Ward walked to lead off before Kali Shirk singled through the left side. Ward stole third before Jessica Griffith knocked a sacrifice fly to center field to tie the game.

In the top of the seventh inning, Elon's Dani Concepcion led off with a single up the middle before Meredith Miley moved her to second on a sacrifice bunt. Debbie Zeigler then singled up the middle to put runners on the corners followed by a walk to Megan Borgaard to load the bases. Dahlen was hit by a pitch to bring Concepcion home from third and give Elon the eventual winning run at 2-1. Paige Goss then singled through the left side to score pinch runner Nicole Ellis and give Elon the 3-1 margin of victory.

Meeks (2-1) tallied the win for Elon, hurling seven innings and giving up one run on five hits while striking out three batters. Lauren Nicholson (1-2) took the loss for the Retrievers after pitching a complete game, fanning six batters and giving up three runs on eight hits.

Concepcion led the Phoenix at the plate, going two-for-three while Meeks hit two-for-four. Kristie Pickeral led UMBC going two-for-three from the plate.
