LARRY ALVIS RESIGNS TO BECOME HEAD COACH AT MOUNT ST. MARY'S

9/22/2004

Assistant Softball Coach Larry Alvis has resigned to become the Head Coach at Mount St. Mary's University in Emmittsburg, Maryland, it was announced today by Head Softball Coach Joe French.

Alvis has been French's top assistant for the past three years, helping the Retrievers win 114 games during that time span. "Larry certainly deserves the opportunity as he has done a terrific job over the past three years," said French. "Everyone at UMBC wishes him the best of luck in the future."

The Mountaineers are coming off a 13-30 season and finished 2004 with a 6-12 record in the Northeast Conference. "Larry will do a great job at The Mount, and I'm sure that he will turn them into a playoff contender in the very near future," added French.

UMBC will face the Mountaineers this upcoming spring season, on March 22, 2005.

A search for Alvis' replacment will begin immediately.
