KRISTIE PICKERAL NAMED TO LOUISVILLE SLUGGER/NFCA DIVISION I ALL-REGION SECOND TEAM

     Junior tri-captain Kristie Pickeral (Hughesville, Md./Thomas Stone) of the UMBC softball team was named to the Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division I Second Team for the Mid-Atlantic Region, it was announced yesterday by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association.

    Pickeral led UMBC to a 27-34 record this season in the team’s first year in the America East Conference. She started 59 of 61 total games at third base and finished with a team-high .345 batting average. In addition, Pickeral led the Retrievers in homeruns with 10 and RBI's with 36. Currently, she ranks fifth in school history in hits (207), fourth in career batting average (.361) and extra-base hits (55), sixth in at-bats (573), second in RBI's (145), and first in homeruns (32).

    As a sophomore, Pickeral was selected as the Northeast Conference Player of the Year and subsequently received 2003 All-Region First Team honors.
