The game remained knotted at two until the fifth, when Stony Brook capitalized on a Retriever error to score junior Colleen McCarthy. With one on, junior Jane Stein followed with a two-run homerun to give the Seawolves a 5-2 advantage. Stony Brook blew the game open in the sixth, as they scored seven unearned runs off four hits and one error.

In the nightcap, freshman starting pitcher Sarah Hoffman (10-9) allowed just four hits to lead the Seawolves to the 5-0 shutout. Offensively, Stony Brook was led by Marissa Servello and Jamie Neuner, who each had two hits, and junior Kristen Brust, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI’s.
UMBC pitcher Lauren Nicholson (Audubon, N.J./Paul VI) (9-10) was tabbed with the loss as she allowed five runs on ten hits while walking three and striking out nine. Her nine strikeouts gives her 81 on the season, good for 5th in UMBC’s All-Time list. Nicholson now has146 career strikeouts, good for 4th All-Time.
