RETRIEVER SOFTBALL EDGES MOUNT FOR DOUBLEHEADER SWEEP, 2-1, 1-0.

Emmitsburg, Md. – The UMBC softball (22-26) held Mount St. Mary’s (12-25) to one run on five hits in game one and no runs on six hits in game two to take both games of a doubleheader on Wednesday afternoon in non conference softball action at MSM Softball Field. UMBC took game one by a final of 2-1 and shutout the Mount in game two for a 1-0 victory.

 

Amy Sadowl went 5.1 innings allowing one run on five hits while Kelly Claar went the final 1.2 innings with no runs and no hits allowed for the save in game one as UMBC won 2-1.  It was Claar’s first save on the year while Sadowl moves to 8-8 on the season. 

 

The Retrievers scored in the first to take an early 1-0 lead as Kristie Pickeral was hit by a pitch and scored on a single by Crystal Beveridge after Reilly Ward doubled to right field.

 

In the fourth UMBC added the eventual gamewinner when Jen SanFilipo reached on a fielder’s choice that allowed Tara Lindsey to cross the plate.

 

The Mount rallied for a run in the bottom of the sixth as Eileen Williams scored on a wild pitch.  The Mount’s Reanna Tuczynski went the distance on the mound but took the loss to fall to 5-7 on the year. 

 

In game two, Retriever starter Lauren Nicholson threw all seven innings to get the shutout win, allowing six hits and striking out five Mountaineers.  The lone run of the game came in the top of the third with Pickeral recording an RBI single to score Sarah Crowell. 

 

Mount starter Jamie Johnson went the distance as well allowing one run on five hits.
