Baltimore, Md.Freshman Ashlee Freeman threw a shutout for the third consecutive time to lead Boston University (15-21, 3-0 America East) to a 4-0 victory over UMBC (19-22, 0-5 America East) this afternoon at the UMBC Softball Stadium.

The Terriers got on the board early after Jamie Haas hit a one-out single, and UMBC pitcher Lauren Nicholson walked two consecutive batters before BU’s Chiya Louie hit a sacrifice fly to score Haas.

The Retrievers threatened in the second inning when freshman Reilly Ward led off with a walk, and senior Crystal Beveridge and freshman Gina Olivieri hit back-to back singles to load the bases with one out. However, UMBC would not be able to get anyone across the plate as Freeman managed to get sophomore Tara Lindsey and senior Jen SanFilippo to fly out.

In the top of the third, Terrier first baseman Liz Alley blasted a solo shot to give BU a 2-0 lead. Boston University added two insurance runs in the seventh to come away with the 4-0 victory.

For the game, Freeman allowed no hits and struck out four while walking three to get the win and improve to 10-11. Nicholson was tabbed with the loss despite allowing just four hits while striking out five and walking three. She fell to 7-6 on the season.

UMBC returns to action on Wednesday when they travel to Binghamton for a league doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m.
