SOFTBALL SPLITS DAY AT DIXIE CLASSIC

The UMBC Softball split two games at the Dixie Classic, winning their opener on the day against Liberty, 8-1, and falling in a slugfest with George Mason, 11-6. The Retriever bats were in full force on the day as they recorded nine hits in game one and 11 in the second game.
Against Liberty, Freshman Kelly Claar pitched a gem, throwing a six-hitter with five strikeouts. Heather Bennent was 2-for-3 in the game with 2 RBI as the Retrievers tallied a four run second and a four run fifth.
Against George Mason the Retrievers jumped out to a 3-0 lead and held a 4-2 advantage before the Patriots recorded a seven run fourth with five hits, including a three-run double and two run home run. The Retrievers closed the gap in the sixth two runs on a triple. Amanda Bile went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI, knocking a double and triple to lead the Retrievers. Eight of nine Retrievers tallied hits in the game.
