TARA LINDSEY SIGNS WITH UMBC SOFTBALL FOR JANUARY 2004

Centerfielder/shortstop Tara Lindsey has signed with UMBC Softball and will be playing this coming spring, it was announced today by Head Coach Joe French. Lindsey comes from Blinn Junior College (Brenham, Texas), where she played for one year and was selected to the All-NJCAA Region XIV First Team as a centerfielder.
Lindsey was a key component of the 2003 Blinn team that made it to the NJCAA Division I World Series, finishing second in the country. She hit .329 overall and .377 in conference play, while throwing out 12 runners from her center field position. Lindsey also made Second Team ASA Gold All-American in leading her summer team "Texas Sudden Impact Gold" to a high finish in the 2002 Gold Nationals in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma.
"She is a top-notch student athlete who will have a big impact on UMBC's program," said French. "She can play either shortstop or center field. She is very quick and athletic, and also has a strong bat, great glove and arm."
Lindsey's signing caps off a great 2003 recruiting class which includes P/DH Kelly Claar (Federal Way, Wash.), SS/3B Reilly Ward (Olney, Md.), IF/OF Gina Olivieri (Rochester, N.Y.), 2B/3B Nicole Stanke, utility player Heather Bennett (Ellicott City, Md.), P/1B Jessica Taylor (Baltimore, Md.), 3B/SS/2B Kristi Troster (Lansdale, Pa.), and College of Southern Maryland transfer outfielder Megan Oursler (Drayden, Md.).
